Nearly every womanof any age, size, shape, and colordeals with her own inner dialogue of selfcriticism. Body shame, reinforced by socially entrenched beauty norms, is incredibly difficult to shake. We are constantly convinced that happiness will be achieved once we hit that goal weight, fit into those jeans, and shrink ourselves down. But while there are dozens of guided journals for mindfulness and gratitude, there are none devoted to the practice of thinking positively about the body.
Writer Fariha Roisin has done the work, discussing her own path to bodyconfidence in essays published by Allure, Flare Magazine, Splinter, and the Hairpin. In The Body Positive, Fariha prompts women to explore a new language for talking about their physical selves. Her inspiring words serve as a springboard for using this journal as a love letter to one's own bodyone filled with compassion and joy.
The journal will feature illustrations throughout by Monica Ramos, whose work has been featured in Lucky Peach, Rookie Magazine, and the New York Times. It will also contain original passages contributed by body positive advocates, writers, and influencers, such as Amanda de Cadnet, Alok Vaid Menon, Lindy West, Safia Elhillo, Vivek Shraya, and Jenna Wortham.
